Gwangsan-gu is...
located in the northwest of Gwangju(光州廣域市) and it is the gate of Gwangju. It faces Seogu and Bukgu in the east, Hampyeonggun in the west, Najushi and Namgu in the south, and Jangsunggun in the north so it is the transportation hub of developed air traffic and overland traffic such as railway, expressway, and national highway.
Gwangsan is adjacent to Bukgu and Seogu of Gwangju-si with Geukrak River flowing in between forming a natural boundary. In its south the wide plain near Hwangryong River and Geukrak River is connected to Naju Plain, which serves as a boundary between Gwangsan-gu, and Najushi and Namgu.
In the northern part, Sobaek Mountains and Noryung Mountains stretch, forming a mountainous and hilly region and faces Jangsunggun. In the Western part are gentle mountains and hills, which face Hampyeonggun. So it can be said that Gwangsan-gu shares its boundary with 3 gu, 1 si, and 2 gun.
